WHY TREESHAKE LOVES THE RADISSON BLU

Fast wifi with killer views.

THE ESSENTIALs

Wifi
There is free wifi and the speed is much faster than your home or office ADSL. To be exact; 19,5mb download speed. See screen grab from SpeedTest below.

Plugs
Come fully charged. The plugs are scarce. I tried to unplug a fan to use the power for my laptop. Alas. They seem to superglue their plugs. I did eventually find a plug.

Staff
What a great bunch. Friendly, prompt and a good sense of humour. After walking into a fan (not the one I tried to unplug) and it not only messing up my hair but also pulled out a lot of it, a number of jokes ensued from the bartenders. :)

Ambience
The sound of the crashing waves, yachts and kayaks passing by, tourists sipping cocktails... it's a real work-cation. Is 10am too early to order wine? There's also plenty of shade, so you can sit and work outside without the sun messing with your screen.

Death Stare Factor
There was no issue or funny looks from the staff when the army of Macbooks arrived.

Food and Drinks
We only had coffee, which was good. #startupjuice The wine and cocktails looked good though.

HOW TO GET THERE

Driving
They have a parking lot at the hotel. It's not free though. There's always plenty of parking in Beach Rd. So, you won't have to park further than 50m away.

MyCiti
The 104 (Sea Point - Waterfront - Civic Centre) bus runs past the Radisson Blu. It's the yellow line. Get off at either the Mouille Point or Granger Bay stop.

Cycling
There are guards everywhere on the premises. So, you'll be able to safely lock up your bike somewhere in the hotel's parking lot.

  • You can lock up your laptop and go for a trail run, hike or mountain bike ride and come back, shower (yes, they have great shower facilities) and continue work. True story!

  • Have a look at the site if you want to know more: http://www.ridein.co.za/

There are plenty of plugs.

Staff
The staff is friendly and prompt.

Food and Drinks
The food, snacks and coffee is superb and very reasonable.

Ambience
Think mountains and farm-like atmosphere, with wifi. Ride In was built with the purpose of being the '19th hole' for mountain bikers. So, there's always some lycra around. :) But there are always folk with laptops both inside and outside. Basically, it's a great vibe.

Death Stare Factor
There is no issue if you sit there the whole day with your laptop and order only 1 or 2 coffees. So, death stare factor is a flat 0!

    HOW TO GET THERE

    Driving
Whether you take the N1 or N2 from Cape Town, it's a bout a 50 minute drive. The road into Jonkershoek is incredibly picturesque. There's plenty of parking on the Ride In Property.

    Uber
An Uber from Cape Town to Jonkershoek will probably cost you about 500 Mandelas.

    Train
As an alternative, you can take the Metro from Cape Town to Stellenbosch, and then an Uber to Ride In.
